My morning routine has turned from a 15 minute job into a 30 minute job. All to ensure Lily is getting enough to eat. The other ladies really pick on her and going to make sure they know to CUT IT OUT or they won't get anything special. Because they've eaten every piece of grass inside the coop I know go around my yard trimming the edges for grass. I dig up a small area for dirt and bugs for Lily to scratch in while the other ladies eat from the feeder (they are starting to catch on that Lily is eating all of the bugs). Then I grab a container of the mulberries falling off the tree over the coop. So know the morning looks like:
1. Rake out the run.
2. Wash out the water - refill with water.
3. Refill the feeder with food and re-hang.
4. Let the ladies out.
5. Gather grass, dirt (bugs) and berries. Place them in different areas in the run.
6. Clean out the "house" - spread out new straw.
7. Lock everything back-up - don't want the neighborhood
wild children bothering the ladies.
ALL FOR LILY... She better realize how early 5:40 rolls around everyday.

I've come to the realization that my idea of the pecking order is slightly wrong. Lily is low chick on the totem pole. She tries to put on her game face and stand up to Bonnie and the others, but she's just to timid. I'm going to keep my eye on her - I've always had a soft spot for the underdog.

Kindda funny when you think about it. Although I tell people I'm keeping the chickens for the eggs, I really don't like eggs all that much. I put them in tuna salad and bake with them, but waking up and eating scrambled or over easy eggs - not so much. We will have a surplus. Here's a picture of Trinity with this weeks egg collection.

We are really getting into a routine. The ladies seem to know when it's time to get up and when it's time to go to bed. Way easier then I imagined. Keeping up with the daily routine will make it much easier to keep everything nice and clean. But no more staying up until 2am to watch movies. I am so tired. 3 1/2 hours of sleep is not enough, even for me.
